The Jimmy Carr State Farm Scholarship, created with the help of the State Farm Companies Foundation’s Good Neighbor Grant and Matching Gift Program, is awarded to graduates of Oxford High School (Johnson) and Lafayette High School (Weaver) with first preference going to students who will be joining the Ole Miss Pride of the South band; the Judy Carr Scholarship is awarded to a graduate of St. Josephs High School in Greenville (Terracina).
Johnson, who plays the saxophone in the band, is a freshman computer science major. He hopes to use his degree to work for Google or Apple.
Terracina is a freshman nutrition major who plans to become a physician’s assistant in the field of dermatology.
Weaver, who plays the French horn in the band, is a freshman biology science education major. He hopes to become a teacher and ultimately a school superintendent.
The university’s current goal is to build a $2 million endowment to support band scholarships.
