Josh Whelan, a University of Mississippi graduate, has taken a position as a development officer in the university’s Office of Development. The Greenwood native is responsible for attracting financial support from Ole Miss parents for various campus initiatives.
"We are so thrilled to have Josh as the newest member of our team," said Ted Smith, Associate Director of University Development. "Josh is committed to serving Ole Miss and I know his background and interest in development will be an asset as he works with parents to ensure we can provide the best educational experience possible for their children."
Whelan earned a bachelor’s in English and in psychology a master of arts in higher education all from Ole Miss. He is also a graduate of Pillow Academy in Greenwood.
As a student, Whelan worked for the Ole Miss Alumni Association in the Career Center where he was in charge of career services, and also interned with the Development Office. It was his internship there that helped him realize his interest in fundraising.
Before starting his professional career with Ole Miss, Whelan worked as a mental health specialist at Communicare Community Mental Health Center in Oxford.
“I’m extremely excited about working with Ole Miss parents,” Whelan said. “Ole Miss is a family and our parents love and support this university. It’s great to be a part of that.”
