The Ole Miss Alumni Association’s board of directors recently created a scholarship fund in honor of retired Executive Director Tim Walsh.
“Because Tim has been such a valuable part of the Ole Miss family, we wanted to do something to show our appreciation,” said Alumni Association President Trentice Imbler. “In honor of Tim’s retirement, his love for Ole Miss, and his long career supporting the university, we have created the Timothy L. Walsh Scholarship Endowment.”
Walsh, a Memphis native, began serving as executive director of Alumni Affairs at the University of Mississippi in 2008. A member of the Alumni Affairs staff since 1990, he previously held the positions of senior associate director and associate dean for development for the School of Law. He retired from the university on March 1, 2015, and accepted a position as assistant vice president for alumni affairs at the University of Florida.
“I am honored that the Alumni Association has established this scholarship in my honor,” said Walsh. “Once endowed, it will be another scholarship program offered by the Alumni Association for children of Ole Miss graduates.”
Walsh earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration in 1983 and a master’s degree in higher education in 1991, both from Ole Miss.
“Our goal is to raise $25,000 to endow a scholarship to provide support for an Ole Miss student in perpetuity,” said Ole Miss Alumni Association Past President Jimmy Brown. “Tim dedicated 25 years to the Ole Miss Alumni Association and the University of Mississippi, and we hope to honor him by creating a permanent legacy in his name with this scholarship.”
Individuals and organizations can make contributions to the Tim Walsh Scholarship Fund by sending a check with the fund noted in the memo line to the University of Mississippi Foundation, 406 University Ave., Oxford, MS 38655. Contributions also can be made online at www.umfoundation.com/makeagift/, or contacting Emily Briggs at emily@olemiss.edu or 662-915-7375.
