The educational needs of hundreds of north Mississippi residents are met each year through The University of Mississippi- DeSoto campus in Southaven.Since the DeSoto Center building opened in 1996, the enrollment in The University of MIssissippi- DeSoto Center has grown to nearly 1,000 students enrolled each semester.

The unique affiliation of The University of Mississippi with Northwest Mississippi Community College at the DeSoto Center provides the ideal mix of academic and technical training for the development of DeSoto County.Northwest, owner of the DeSoto Center, built the campus to provide educational opportunities for traditional day students as well as non-traditional evening students--those who want to earn college credit while working or meeting family commitments.

The University of Mississippi-DeSoto works in conjunction with Northwest and other area community college partners to help students complete their college degree through its bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Junior, senior, and graduate-level college coursework is offered through day, evening, and online courses. Students are able to continue working, maintain important roles in family life, and stay active in the community.

The UM-DeSoto campus currently offers undergraduate courses in accountancy, business, criminal justice, education, health sciences, liberal arts, paralegal studies, and social work. Master's level degrees are offered in accountancy, counselor eduction, curriculum and instruction (master's and specialist), elementary education, educational leadership, higher education, literacy education, nursing, secondary education, and teaching English as a second language.
